Baker coming to Cedarville

Leah Baker
Pleasant Hill, Iowa native Leah Baker (seated center) has signed a letter of intent to attend Cedarville University where she will continue her softball career with the Lady Jackets. The righthanded pitcher played at Grandview Park Baptist High School in Des Moines. Leah is the daughter of Bart and Karen Baker (standing). She is seated between her high school head coach Chris Murphy (left) and athletic director Matt Thompson.

Young, a native of Marion, Ohio, was a four-year starter for the Pacers, an all-conference pitcher, and earned scholar-athlete honors.

CU ends season with sweep at Shawnee State

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (4-25-2008) - Mallory White and Sarah Harnica combined to limit Shawnee State to 10 hits total and the Lady Jackets wrapped up the 2008 season with an AMC South Division doubleheader sweep. Cedarville won 4-0 and 2-1.

White fired a complete-game four-hitter in the opener for her second shutout of the campaign. Cedarville totaled 12 hits as Sara Koepke and CrystalRae States each went 3-for-4. Aubree Munson had two hits including a triple and Charissa Rowe added two hits. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE]

The Lady Jackets, who finish 18-24 overall and 7-13 AMC, totaled just three hits in the second game, but two of them came in the 6th inning when they scored their two runs with two outs to take a 2-1 lead. Rowe singled in Koepke and Munson followed with an RBI triple. Winning pitcher Harnica allowed six hits in 5 1/3 innings and White shut down the Bears over the final 1 2/3 innings to get the save. White pitched in a school-record 37 games this spring and set another new mark with 15 relief appearances. She was 13-12 with two saves, 17 complete games, and a 2.94 ERA.

CEDARVILLE, Ohio (4-22-2008) - Cedarville completed the home portion of the 2008 schedule with a win and a loss against American Mideast Conference South Division foe Urbana. The Lady Jackets rallied to win the opener, 5-3, and the Blue Knights put together a comeback of their own to take game two, 4-3.

Cedarville trailed 3-1 in the first game before bouncing back with two runs each in the 5th and 6th innings. Jenna Fox scored on a throwing error in the 6th to break a 3-3 tie and Christina Zorn singled home Sara Koepke with an insurance run. Aubree Munson was 2-for-3 with two RBI's while Jessica Reyes tripled and scored a run. Winning pitcher Mallory White struck out four batters and upped her record to 12-11. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE]

It was Urbana that erased a 3-0 deficit in the nightcap. The Blue Knights scored twice in the 3rd inning and then stunned CU by scoring two more after the first batter was retired in the 7th. Zorn was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Sarah Hoffman went 2-for-3 and Reyes added another triple with a run scored. [GAME 2 BOXSCORE]

Jackets swept out of NCCAA regional

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. (4-19-2008) - Cedarville lost twice to end its stay at the NCCAA Midwest Regional. Host Spring Arbor hammered the Lady Jackets, 10-3, and Indiana Wesleyan followed up with an 11-0 rout.

In the first game, the Cougars scored three runs in their first at bat and made it 5-0 before Cedarville plated three runs in the bottom of the 6th. Sara Koepke was 3-for-3 with two runs batted in. Jenna Fox and Sarah Hoffman contributed two hits each. Spring Arbor clinched the outcome with a five-run 7th inning. [BOXSCORE]

Top seed Indiana Wesleyan overwhelmed CU leading 5-0 after two innings while handcuffing the Lady Jackets on just one hit. Charissa Rowe came up with the lone single for Cedarville, 15-23 overall.

Fox, Koepke, and Hoffman were named to the all-tournament team. Fox, Aubree Munson, Jessica Reyes, and Andrea Walker all earned spots on the 2008 All-NCCAA Midwest Region Team. [BOXSCORE]
